Your Words Give You Away – Norman Lewis

No glass renders a man’s likeness so true as his speech. you hear about what the other person is saying but do you hear what they are not saying? do you recognize what she is trying to say? have you done your assignment – have you read… between the lines?

  1. Fingerprint Words – a word or group of words that recur frequently is one of the surest clues to who or what is on a person’s mind.
  2. Big Pronoun – look at how a person uses pronoun. Is it always I or we? My or our? self or group? egoistic or otherwise? according to a study, people with mental illness tend to use more I, me, my and mine than normal people. they use these as often as once every twelve words. normal people use we in place of i. if you want your insanity to remain a secret for a little longer, refrain from using too much I.
  3. Judgment Test – check the adjectives one used to approve or disapprove things. it will reveal the preferences of a person. if one is prone to use “strong” to approve of things like ” strong execution of steps” for a dance or “strong notes” for a musical or “strong flavor” for a cake, chance is he doesn’t only judge things based on power, his personality talks about power.
  4. Images and Themes – the similes, metaphors and analogies one use in describing things and events the life experiences and philosophies of a person.
  5. Er.. Ah.. – the pauses and hesitations are as good as direct answers. in organizational communication, and the whole world for this matter, people must recognize the nonverbal cues as much as the verbal ones.
